LOHARDAGA: For over 150 boys and girls of Korambe and neighbouring villages of Maoist-hit Senha block, the newly inaugurated bridge on the Koel river is the lifeline, which connects Lohardaga to Gumla's Sisai block.
The bridge, constructed under the Mukhyamantri Gram Setu Yojana, has narrowed the distance between Koarmbe and Gumla where the boys and girls go to study.

Three months back, it was a long and difficult journey as each day they had to board a tube boat to cross the river and reach their institutions.
These students are especially thankful to the district administration as the much-awaited 11-span bridge constructed for Rs 3 crore was completed within a short span. "We have witnessed several Maoist attacks when the construction work was going on, but despite all odds it was completed within the given time frame," said Ramesh Tiwari, a BA Part I student of BS College, Lohardaga, which is about 15 km from Korambe.
Everyday Tiwari had to board a tube boat to cross the Koel river. "We had no option than spending money to cross the river as other alternative routes are long and arduous. Now, the bridge has helped reduce the distances to many places. Passenger vehicles also come to our doors, which go to Ranchi via Bhandra block of Lohardaga and Gumla via Sisai block. Patients, farmers and businessmen all are happy with the development," added Tiwari.
Executive engineer, special division, Bhuneshwar Choubey said, "The construction work of the bridge was hit several times because of Maoist attacks. But both police and the district administration extended full support and we got the bridge constructed within time."
Korambe is a historical place because of the famous Korambe Mahaprabhu temple situated here. The thousand-year-old deity in the temple made of rare black stone is considered to be of Basudeva, one of the incarnations of Lord Krishna. Main priest of the temple Sanjay Nath Deogharia said, "Number of devotees visiting this historic temple has increased after the bridge was inaugurated by chief minister Arjun Munda recently."
