RANCHI: The Jharkhand State Bar Council and the office of the advocate general locked horns over the proposed strike of lawyers called by the council on January 6.
The strike has been called to protest against the hike in the court fees made by the state government after they passed the Court Fees Amendment Bill in the Jharkhand Assembly in 2022.
While the Council, in an emergent meeting held on January 4 decided to abstain from judicial work on January 6, advocate general Rajiv Ranjan held a press conference in his office on Thursday and declared that the government advocates and pleaders will not follow the dictat of the Council and will attend court.

Jharkhand State Bar Council chairman Rajendra Krishna said that the advocates' decision to abstain from work has unanimously been taken by the members of the Council.
"Lawyers will refrain from judicial work on January 6 and 7.
The Council has called for a meeting with the district bar association members on January 8 to decide on the further course of action," Krishna said.
A delegation of the Council had sought for a meeting with the chief minister on January 4 which was denied by the office of the chief minister.
The Council then decided to hold a meeting and has decided to agitate against the government.
