Jharkhand Public Service Commission Promotes 488 Assistant Professors: A Step Towards Academic Growth
Ranchi: The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) has decided to promote as many as 488 assistant professors of the 2008 batch posted in various universities of the state as senior assistant professors, an official source said on Friday.
According to a JPSC source, a number of applications for promotion were still pending due to various reasons, including lack of documents. Kolhan and Jamshedpur Women's universities have not submitted their complete papers for the promotion of their teachers, the source added.
Speaking about the development, Kanjiv Lochan, the convener of the Jharkhand University Teacher Association, welcomed the govt’s step but highlighted that if the assistant professors had been promoted in a timely manner, they would have become professors by now. His organisation had held protests at college levels on several occasions on the issue, but the result came just now, Lochan said. He, however, said his association was awaiting the publication of the promotion list to ascertain whether the teachers had been promoted from the dates they were supposed to get them. He also said the 2008 batch assistant professors with a PhD should have been promoted in 2012 and those without in 2016.
Notably, JPSC has yet to promote associate professors to professors. The applications for the purpose are pending before the JPSC for the past one and a half years.
