Jharkhand Police on High Alert: Border Security Tightened Ahead of Final Voting Phase

Ranchi: Ahead of the final phase of voting on Wednesday, Jharkhand police is on high alert along the areas bordering West Bengal to prevent smuggling of alcohol, cash and freebies, it said on Tuesday. Around 55 composite check posts are active in the 10 bordering districts, it added.

Inspector general (operations) Narendra Kumar Singh said, “District police along with magistrates are deployed at the check posts on the borders. The main target is preventing movement of cash, liquor, other types of freebees and anti-social elements.”

It may be stated here that among the 10 districts located on the borders of Bengal are Sahebganj, Pakur, Dumka, Jamtara, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Seraikela Kharsawan and East Singhbhum.

According to senior police officials, the elections in the constituencies located adjacent to the Jharkhand border has been completed in the first phase itself but police has maintained alertness for second phase as well to curb any kind of irregularities. “Regular checking of vehicles and people are underway as per the protocol,” said another official.



Police stated that along with each check post set up on Jharkhand’s border a corresponding mirror check post is established on Bengal’s border. The police on both the sides have list of local criminals with their photos so that they could be arrested while moving from one state to another.

Police added that during the first phase, people who were not voters of a constituency were also prevented from entering from Jharkhand’s side except during emergency situations.
