Jharkhand HC Orders FIR: Contaminated Blood Transfusion to Children in Chaibasa
Ranchi: The Jharkhand HC on Wednesday directed the officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar police station at Chaibasa to register an FIR in a case involving transmission of contaminated blood to children in the district.The court of Justice Gautam Kumar Chaudhary was hearing a criminal writ petition filed by Deepak Hembram, who informed the court that despite all his efforts, no FIR was registered by Sadar police station in Chaibasa.

The court directed the OC to register the FIR and take necessary action against those found guilty of the act leading to transfusion of contaminated blood in children.Earlier, a division bench of the HC pulled up the state govt for not following the standard operating procedure for blood transfusion, leading to HIV infection in five children in the state.The incident was reported in a local daily, informing about five children of Chaibasa district who underwent blood transfusion in the Sadar Hospital of the district and were found to be HIV positive.
