Dhanbad: Janata Dal (United) will play a significant role in the upcoming urban local body elections in Jharkhand, said the party’s state president and Rajya Sabha MP Khiru Mahto. He was addressing the media after participating in a one-day organisational meeting of the party held in Dhanbad on Sunday.Speaking to reporters, Mahto clarified that although the civic body elections are not being contested formally on a party symbol, JD(U) will extend full support to candidates backed by the party. He expressed confidence that candidates supported by JD(U) would emerge victorious in the municipal elections.

Mahto said that during the organisational meeting, a detailed discussions were held on strengthening the party at the grassroots level. He added that the party has decided to field its candidates in every urban local body election and ensure robust organisational preparedness at the ward and municipal levels. Emphasis was laid on coordination among party workers and leaders to effectively connect with voters.
Highlighting the governance model of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, Mahto said that JD(U) aims to replicate the model of good governance in Jharkhand as well. He said that the process would begin with a strong focus on cleanliness and sanitation drives in urban areas, which would help improve civic amenities and the overall quality of life for citizens.He further said that issues such as basic infrastructure, sanitation, drinking water, and better municipal services would be key priorities for the party in the civic polls. JD(U), he added, is committed to working for transparent and accountable urban governance.
