JBVNL plans to buy additional 100MW of wind power

Ranchi: In an effort to enhance renewable energy sources, Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) has decided to procure 100 MW of wind power.The project is intended to support the discom in satisfying its renewable purchase obligation (RPO) mandates. Under the RPO framework established by the Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission, wind energy represents a compulsory category that distribution companies (discoms) must satisfy, based on a specific percentage of their overall energy consumption.Sanjay Singh, general manager (commercial) of JBVNL, said, "We are presently sourcing 300 MW of wind power through the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI) and PTC India Ltd. This supplementary 100 MW will help us achieve the designated RPO targets."JBVNL intends to obtain the additional capacity through either short- or long-term supply contracts with qualified developers or power traders. Based on the expression of interest (EOI), a fundamental requirement is that energy must originate from wind installations that reached their commercial operation date (COD) on or after March 31, 2024. This stipulation ensures that the electricity fed into the state's grid is produced by modern and recently developed infrastructure.The procurement will be managed through an e-tendering platform, culminating in a reverse e-auction to establish the most economical tariff. The clear bidding process is designed to deliver affordable green power to Jharkhand's consumers whilst facilitating a shift from traditional energy sources, officials said.Interested parties, including project developers and authorised traders, must provide proposals that include their corporate background, previous experience, and financial offers. All submissions are to be directed to the official JBVNL email address by 5 pm on May 19.
