JBVNL Jamshedpur: Power Disconnection Looms for Rs 10,000+ Electricity Bill Defaulters

Jamshedpur: Consumers of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) in the city and surrounding areas with Rs 10,000 or above electricity bills due may soon face disconnection.

JBVNL general manager (Jamshedpur circle) Ajit Kumar said the department has observed that many consumers fail to clear their electricity bills regularly, resulting in significant revenue losses.


“The nigam is unable to function smoothly due to revenue crunch. Teams will be formed to visit areas with a list of defaulters and disconnect their power supply,” Kumar said.

He added that most defaulters have already received multiple reminders. “Stringent action, including power disconnection, can be taken any day,” he said.

Kumar said the defaulters’ list includes 81 mobile towers in East Singhbhum and adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district, which together owe around Rs 4.33 crore to JBVNL.

“If the dues are not cleared within the next two to three days, JBVNL teams will disconnect power supply,” Kumar said.

Mango division has the highest number of defaulters across residential and commercial connections. The division has 36 mobile tower owners owing around Rs 2.22 crore. Ghatshila division follows, with 27 mobile tower owners collectively owing about Rs 2 crore. The remaining defaulters are spread across Adityapur and Jamshedpur divisions, with Adityapur accounting for 15 mobile tower owners with substantial dues, sources said.

There are also around two dozen residential defaulters in the Jamshedpur circle.

The notices issued to households and mobile tower operators have raised concerns among residents. Ondrilla Dutta, a teacher, said, “The govt must consider all aspects before taking such decisions. With board and final examinations underway, power cuts in residential areas could adversely affect students. Life becomes difficult without mobile and internet connectivity.”
