Jamshedpur Water Crisis: DC Orders Report on Dry Zones, Tanker Supply, and Tank Cleaning
Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum DC Rajiv Ranjan has directed officials from the drinking water and sanitation department (DWSD) to submit a detailed report on the dry zones or areas facing severe water shortages in the district.
He has also sought details of residential areas currently receiving water supply via tankers, in order to personally assess the status of those areas. Furthermore, he also instructed directed the officials to clean all overhead water tanks across the district. “Ahead of the monsoon, all the water tanks have to be mandatorily cleaned,” the DC said.
The DC instructed officials to monitor the water situation in the Mango Municipal Corporation command limits and Bagbera suburban areas daily, and to prepare alternative measures to prevent irregular supply.
Incidentally, the Mango town and Bagbera, which are located at the two different ends of the city, are perennial to the water problems particularly during summer.
While reviewing the water and sanitation department's work on Monday, he instructed officials to prioritise fixing faulty hand pumps and restoring water supply in rural areas, noting that rising temperatures and humidity will create hardships during the summer.
DWSD officials told the DC that 833 complaints regarding irregular water supply were received via the Jharjal portal, social media, and newspapers in March. Of these, 755 have been addressed, with the remaining complaints expected to be resolved shortly.
