Jamshedpur: Amid the forecast of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in parts of the state in the next three days due to the impact of
Cyclone Montha, the East Singhbhum district administration on Wednesday began putting precautionary measures in place to avert the loss of life and property.
Chairing the meeting of the district disaster management authority (DDMA), deputy commissioner Karn Satyarthi, on Wednesday issued directions to open command centres in all the blocks. They should be equipped with divers, life jackets, ropes, and other necessary resources to respond immediately in the event of a disaster-linked emergency, he said.

Further, officials were asked to make physical surveys of the schools and anganwadi centres whose building roofs are in a dilapidated condition. Instructions were also issued to seal the dilapidated govt buildings. As per the requirement, the DC told the officials to identify the shelter homes and keep the food suppliers on standby. In the event of property loss due to the cyclone, the area municipal officials and the block officials will make proper documentation of the case without loss of time to compensate the aggrieved person on time. “We should make total preparations aiming there should be no loss of life or property at any cost,” the DC said.
Sufficient medicines at community health centres and primary health centres and the availability of additional ambulances on a phone call are other measures that will be taken in precaution to the cyclone. Importantly, the DC said that due to the model code of conduct being in force for the Ghatshila bypoll, the political activities in the district are being regulated.
Hence, in the wake of the cyclone, if any political party plans to conduct a public help programme or philanthropic activity, it has to be done through the district administration.
