Jamshedpur Man Attacks Father With Cleaver Suspecting Ghost, Police Investigate
Jamshedpur: A ‘mentally deranged’ man assaulted his father with a cleaver, suspecting him to be a ‘ghost’, at their Shyamnagar-based house in Jamshedpur city on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, police said.Officer in-charge of Sidhgora police station, Faiz Ahmed, said, “Karam Singh (56) was assaulted multiple times by his son, Nishant Singh (23). The neighbours rushed to his rescue on hearing screams and alerted the police. He was taken to the MGMMCH, which referred him to the Rims, Ranchi. The victim is in a critical condition.”“The accused appears to be a deranged person. He repeatedly told police that he attacked a ghost, not his father. Preliminary investigation revealed that Nishant has a history of alcohol and drug intoxication. Based on the family members and local people's revelations, it is suspected that Nishant assaulted his father after he was refused money for substance abuse. He has been detained and further probe is under way,” the OC said.
