In another incident under Telco police station area, Adarsh Singh was allegedly attacked by goons with a chopper. Singh, in his 20s, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical.
SP of Jamshedpur (city), Kumar Shivashish, said, “Police are alert and conducting regular raids to catch such attackers. It does not take much effort to get hold of a butcher knife. Many types are available on shopping portals. During the Ram Navami processions, around a dozen youths were caught while trying to display choppers in Sonari area. The weapons were confiscated. Many of them were purchased online.”
Former police officer Mohan Yadav said, “In comparison to illegal firearms, choppers cost less and are easy to procure. They can be easily carried without getting caught. It is a primary reason why many criminals are using it as a weapon.”
Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy said, “Of late there are frequent reports of chopper attacks in the city. Police and administration have to be more active to catch those carrying such dangerous items. Police need to carry out surprise checks on different roads, so that goons carrying such deadly weapons are caught.”
Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Das Sahu said, “Steps need to be taken by state govt so that such weapons are not sold in the open market.”
