Forest department’s maiden flower show kicks off in Ranchi
Ranchi: A two-day flower show, organised by the state department of forest, environment and climate change, got underway at Oxygen Park in Morabadi on Saturday. Over 200 varieties of indigenous and exotic flowers from India and across the country will be on display at the event, the organisers said.
Besides the exhibition, an exhibition on organic products at the event is also drawing large number of visitors, especially youth and gardening enthusiasts.
Among the flowers drawing special attention from visitors are petunia, calendula, verbena, periwinkle, chrysanthemum, dianthus, dahlia, bacardo, Erica Palm, Chhatispati, kalanchoe, roses, and double delight.
In addition to flowering plants, the exhibition features manual and machine-operated horticulture tools, which are available for demonstration and sale. The show aims to promote gardening and horticulture as viable practices even in limited spaces such as apartments and small households.
Principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) Ravi Ranjan said, " This is the first such initiative by the department in Jharkhand. Although the show is being organised on a modest scale this year, it showcases over 200 colourful flower species and will be expanded further in the coming years. The primary objective is to raise awareness about horticulture and encourage people to adopt gardening in urban lifestyles. "
Tirloki Gupta, a resident of Morabadi, said, "The combination of flowers and organic products makes this exhibition unique. It’s refreshing to see such an eco-friendly initiative. The variety of flowers here is truly impressive. It feels like a garden tour across different countries, right in the heart of city. "
