Female-managed restrooms for better women empowerment

Ranchi: Restroom facilities will be built under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the AMRUT, and the NULM to enhance women empowerment and managed by women themselves, said Shalini Pandey, the director of the ministry of housing and urban affairs during a workshop on urban livelihoods held on Thursday.

Pandey said, “The aim is to empower women residing in urban locales, fostering their economic and social empowerment while promoting their active involvement in the society. A rising number of women are entering the workforce, reflecting a notable shift in societal dynamics. The ultimate goal is to formulate a robust plan that will bring about a comprehensive change in the standard of living for the urban poor.”

UNDP representative Isabelle Tshan stressed on the status of women and their contributions. He said, “It is vital to discuss the state of urban women, their empowerment and integration into society.”

Sustainable urban livelihood ecosystem, emerging trends and opportunities, the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) for informed decision-making, and the intersection of climate, economy, and emerging livelihood opportunities, were discussed.
