Dumka: A 32-year-old man was arrested and sent to jail on Thursday for allegedly murdering his wife over dowry. The accused Sardar Marandi was arrested a day after his wife Namita (26) was found dead in the couple’s house in Daldali village under Shikaripara police station limits of the district. Marandi was arrested on murder charges after Namita’s father Basu Hembrom, a resident of Sainthia in West Bengal, lodged an FIR against him with the local police. Hembrom said his daughter was subjected to continuous harassment over dowry since she got married to Marandi in 2023. The couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old son.
In his FIR, Hembrom said he was informed over phone by Marandi that Namita was unwell. Upon reaching Daldali village, Hembrom found her daughter dead inside the house. Her neck had a deep mark.
"A case of dowry death has been registered, and the accused has been arrested. Further probe is on,” said officer in-charge of Shikaripara police station Amit Lakra.
