Dhanbad Doctor Receives Death Threat: Police Investigate Extortion Attempt at Kidney Care Clinic
Dhanbad: Panic gripped the Nawadih area of Dhanbad after a doctor allegedly received a death threat by an unidentified person. The threat came to light when a handwritten letter warning of dire consequences was found pasted outside the ICU of a private clinic.
The incident took place at the Kidney Care Clinic operated by renowned nephrologist Dr Mihir Kumar, located in Mahakaleshwar Complex near Birsa Munda Park. According to the complaint, the threatening letter was discovered outside the ICU late on the night of Feb 9.
Dr Kumar has lodged a written complaint at the Dhanbad police station, following which an FIR has been registered against unknown persons. In his application, Dr Kumar stated that one of the clinic staff members, identified as Aslam, first noticed the letter pasted outside the ICU door.
The message warns the doctor that he was “lucky to have survived earlier due to being in a group,” otherwise he would have been shot. It further mentioned that the doctor would be killed and cautions him not to take the threat lightly. Dr Kumar has expressed apprehension that the threat may be linked to an extortion attempt.
Dhanbad police station in-charge Manoj Pandey said that a case has been registered based on the doctor’s written complaint. He stated that the police are taking the matter very seriously. “CCTV footage installed inside and outside the clinic is being examined to identify the person who pasted the threatening letter,” he said.
