Deputy SP Neha Bala: Leading the Charge Against Cyber Crime in Jharkhand

Ranchi: Deputy SP (cyber crime) of CID, Neha Bala, is one of the leading police officers when it comes to tackling cyber frauds within and outside the state.She has worked in cyber crime control for the past nine years at several places, including at hot spots Deoghar and Jamtara. Over the years, she has gained expertise in investigating online financial fraud, cryptocurrency-related fraud, social media crimes and cyber intelligence.The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, a wing of the ministry of home affairs, in 2023 awarded a certificate of appreciation to her for establishing inter-state linkages of cyber criminals arrested in Deoghar and subsequently informing police to take accused persons under remand for interrogation.In Aug 2025, she detected a cyber fraud network involving seven Indians allegedly working for Chinese cybercriminals from Ranchi and facilitating digital arrest and investment scams.She also played a key role in the arrest of an accused in Feb for trafficking job-seekers to cyber scam centres in THailand, where the victims were forced to carry out online fraud.Additional DGP (CID), Manoj Kauhik, stated, “She did exceptional work in tackling cyber crimes in the state over the years.”Bala, from the 2016 batch, is a bachelor of engineering in electronics and instrumentation from Satyabhama College in Chennai. Soon after her training for deputy SP, she was posted to handle cyber cases in view of her qualifications.She also leads intelligence-based operations against organised cyber fraud networks and coordinating with banks and national cybercrime agencies for fraud detection.
