Dhanbad: The police on Thursday claimed it averted a possible criminal incident by arresting a man with a loaded country made pistol at Barhai Basti under Sonardih police out-post under Baghmara subdivision on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team from Sonardih, Barora, and Madhuban police stations launched a raid and apprehended the suspect before he could execute his plans. The accused was identified as Ritik Sharma. A resident of Sonardih, Sharma was arrested with a loaded country-made pistol, a live cartridge, and a mobile phone, Bhagmara subdivisional police officer (SDPO) Purushottam Singh said on Thursday.
Singh said Sharma was roaming in the area with the intention of committing a crime. “Based on confidential information, police carried out a coordinated operation and managed to catch the accused red-handed. Preliminary investigation suggests that he was planning to execute a criminal act,” Singh said.
Singh said the police are probing Sharma’s possible links with other individuals. Some of his associates have already been identified, though their names are not being disclosed at this stage due to the ongoing investigation. The seized firearm and cartridge have been sent for forensic examination, while Sharma is being interrogated to uncover details of his network and criminal intentions.
Authorities assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved. The case highlights the effectiveness of timely intelligence and coordinated policing in curbing crime in the coal belt region of Dhanbad.
