RAMGARH: A local court here on Monday pronounced a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable guilty of killing three members of a railway porter's family, including a pregnant woman, with his service revolver in the railway colony near the Barkakana junction of the East Central Railway (ECR) on August 17, 2019. An FIR in connection with the case was registered with the RPF outpost.
Public prosecutor R B Rai said the court of additional district judge-1 Sheshnath Singh convicted RPF constable Pawan Kumar Singh in the triple murder case. Singh had killed porter Ashok Ram (55), his wife Leela Devi (49) and pregnant daughter Meena Devi (32) while Ram's other daughter, Suman Kumari, and son, Chintu, sustained bullet injuries in the incident.
The court convicted Singh, who was posted at the Barkakana junction under sections 302 and 307 of the IPC and Section 27 of the Arms Act. It will pronounce the quantum of punishment on March 16, Bai said.
In his statement, Chintu said his father had a milk business apart from his railway porter's job and the RPF constable living in the same colony was a customer. On August 17, 2019, Singh opened fire with his service revolver and killed his father, mother and pregnant sister and injured him and Suman after his family refused to sell him milk for outstanding dues, Raj said, adding that Singh was suspended immediately by the RPF. His service revolver was seized and he was arrested from his native village in Bihar.
National Commission for Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste member Yogendra Paswan met the victims on September 3, 2019. He also held a meeting with then Ramgarh DC Sandeep Singh and then SP Prabhat Kumar.
