Class X, XII board exams get off to smooth start across state on day 1

Ranchi: The board exams being conducted by the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) began on Tuesday. While the high school exam will end on April 3, the intermediate exam will conclude on April 5.
As many as 4,33,738 students are appearing in the matriculation examination at 1,241 centres, while 3,34,276 are taking the intermediate examination at 719 centres across the state.

A total of 6,954 examinees appeared at 159 centres across Ranchi district on the first day of the exam. For Class X exams, 98.8% students appeared in the IT paper, while 98% students appeared in the vocational course’s exam. At the intermediate level, exams were held for science, arts, and commerce streams. “In arts stream, 97.7% of the candidates took the exam, while in science stream, 99.2% of the examinees appeared in the exam. In the commerce stream, 98.9% of the students took the exam,” informed an official with the district education department.
Ritu Gupta, a school teacher said, “Students were given instructions on how to enter their enrolment number and other essential information 15 minutes before the examinations.”
Meanwhile, Poonam Kumari, a teacher of IT subject at the Marwari + 2 High School, said, “Only five per cent of the questions was moderately tough.”
Students with health issues were provided with special seating arrangement. Aarti Kumari, a student at Bariatu’s Government Middle School, said, “I have recently suffered a fracture in the leg. But I did not face any issue as I was given a single bench to write my exams.”
As many as 14 evaluation centres have been set up in Ranchi to correct the answer scripts of the candidates appearing in the matriculation and the intermediate examinations, officials said.
