Daltonganj: Two guests were injured in alleged celebratory firing at an engagement ceremony at Bhagat Tendua village, around 90 km from Daltonganj town in Palamu district, on Friday night. Police said on Saturday said that they arrested a former mukhiya, Saroj Mehta, who fired from his licensed weapon.
A man was injured in leg while a bullet grazed the back of another guest during the ceremony at the house of farmer Rahul Paswan, the police added.
Officer in-charge of Harihurganj police station, Deobrat Poddar, said, “Guest Arvind Mishra, in his 50s, was hurt in his leg. The other guest had a bullet graze past his back. They are out of danger.”
Mishra was first rushed to the community health centre at Harihurganj from where he was referred to a higher centre in Bihar’s Aurangabad, around 25 km away.
Poddar said, “We have arrested the former mukhiya, who also attended the event. His two licensed weapons — a revolver and rifle — have been seized. We will recommend cancellation of his arms licence on charges of misuse.”
