CBSE Schools Launch Intergenerational Activities: Fostering Respect for Grandparents
Ranchi: Schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will soon begin inter-generational activities involving students and their grandparents, aimed at instilling respect for senior citizens among students.
The move follows the advisory from the National Council for Senior Citizens and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
According to experts, under the initiative, CBSE has directed schools to organise structured activities where students could participate alongside their grandparents in different activities on campus. An activity calendar has been shared with schools asking them to formally integrate those from the new session.
Principal of Cambrian Public School, Paramjit Kaur, said, "Activities like cooking, art and sports were planned under the calendar and will be implemented from the new session with active participation of grandparents. The objective is to foster emotional bonding, mutual understanding, respect and moral values between students and senior citizens."
Schools will invite grandparents on key national and commemorative occasions such as Independence Day, Children’s Day and the International Day of Older Persons.
CBSE says such initiatives will reduce loneliness and social isolation among senior citizens while strengthening values of empathy and respect among students.
Schools are planning to organise walkathons and interactive programmes such as cooking sessions, art, sports and cultural activities, enabling grandparents and grandchildren to participate together.
Principal of JVM Shyamali, Samarjeet Jana, said, "The school celebrates Grandparents’ Day every year and encourages students to bring their grandparents during parent-teacher meetings. More activities will be introduced from the new academic session to further strengthen intergenerational bonding."
