Bokaro Steel Plant Demolishes Illegal Office Linked to Murder Accused
Bokaro: In a joint action, Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) and the district administration on Tuesday demolished an illegally constructed office structure allegedly linked to Binod Kumar alias Binod Khopdi, an accused in a murder case which took place in December last year.
Kumar is currently lodged in judicial custody in Chas Jail for killing one Jayant Singh. He is also contesting for the post of mayor in the Chas Municipal Corporation election from the jail. The demolition drive was carried out following an eviction order passed by the Estate Court of BSL. A joint team led by BSL officials and the DSP (City) Alok Ranjan, supported by heavy police deployment and an, reached the encroached area in Sector VI and razed the structure. A swimming pool built on the plot was also demolished.
BSL officials said the PSU owned the plot. Encroached for several years, the matter only came to light after the murder case, in which Kumar is a prime accused. “We had received repeated complaints regarding this illegal construction. Following due legal process, the Estate Court issued an eviction order, which was executed today. This is BSL land, and whenever encroachment is found, we act as per procedure,” a senior BSL official said.
DSP (City) Alok Ranjan said police extended support to ensure peaceful execution of the Estate Court order. “The accused has around 20 criminal cases against him. The structure was illegally built and allegedly used as a hideout. We ensured law and order during the demolition,” he said.
Meanwhile, supporters of Kumar alleged that the demolition was politically motivated.
