Bokaro Police Seize Rs 10 Lakh Spurious Liquor Ahead of Holi
Bokaro: Ahead of the Holi festival, the Bokaro police launched a major crackdown on the illegal liquor trade and seized a huge consignment of spurious foreign liquor in the Chatrochatti police station area on Sunday. This was the second incident in the past 24 hours in which police seized a huge stock of fake liquor bottles in Bermo sub-division.
Bokaro SP Harvinder Singh said that acting on specific intelligence inputs, a police team conducted a raid at Narkandi village, where a large quantity of fake Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) was allegedly stored in a rented house near a local tower.
“During the raid, police recovered 2,688 bottles of different brands of foreign liquor, amounting to nearly 793 litres, with an estimated market value of around Rs 10 lakh. The house owner, Sona Mahto, was taken into custody. During questioning, he claimed that the room was rented out to another person from Hazaribag district, who allegedly stored the illegal liquor there. Police launched further raids to arrest the other accused involved in the racket,” said the SP.
An FIR was registered at Chatrochatti police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Excise Act. Officials said the drive against illegal liquor will continue to ensure peaceful and safe celebrations during Holi.
On Saturday, police seized a large quantity of forged foreign liquor and manufacturing materials from the Kathara area. A police team conducted a raid and recovered fake branded liquor bottles, counterfeit stickers, barcodes, jars filled with spirit, and a sealing machine.
The materials were allegedly used to manufacture and package spurious liquor for distribution in the local market. Police also seized the pickup van used to transport the illegal consignment.
