BJP Backs Wives of Leaders for Jamshedpur Mayoral Posts: MMC, JMC Elections

Jamshedpur: BJP has decided to support spouses of their male party members for the mayoral post for the Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) and Jugsalai Municipal Council (JMC) elections scheduled on February 23. The saffron camp would back party leader Niraj Singh’s wife Sandhya Singh in MMC and BJP leader and RSS karyakarta Guddu Singh’s wife Rinku Singh in JMC.Though the civic body polls are not on party lines, all political parties have their clear favourites for all posts. Both Sandhya and Rinku have claimed that they will work for easing the lives of residents, if elected to the post.“Garbage disposal, water scarcity and erratic power supply are the primary concerns of the people. I will sincerely work to address these problems,” Sandhya Singh said.Rinku said, “Tata Steel UISL amenities in Jugsalai, women’s degree college, vehicles parking zone in market areas, potable water, regular power supply are the primary demands of the area residents and I will work to provide these to the people.”In adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district, the party extended support to Prabhasini Kalundia for the Adityapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) mayoral post. Prabhasini has been a ward member thrice and is an active member of the BJP. She is reportedly close to former chief minister Champai Soren.“Mayoral aspirant Sandhya is neither an active member of BJP nor involved in social work. She got the support of the BJP leadership due to the influence of her husband Niraj, who is a state convenor of the party’s traders cell,” claimed party insiders.Meanwhile, BJP’s former East Singhbhum district president Raj Kumar Srivastava fielded his wife, Kumkum, for the Mango mayoral seat.A member of BJP’s Jamshedpur Mahila Morcha, Lucky Singh, announced her resignation from the party after she was denied the support for the mayoral post in Mango.BJP’s Jamshedpur Mahila Morcha president Nilu Machua said, “Several women members of the party were in contention for the mayoral and chairman post of both Mango and Jugsalai, but organisational discipline has to be followed.”BJP mahanagar unit secretary Anil Modi said, “Rinku is involved in social work.”
