Ranchi: Aditya Sahu was formally named as the new president of Jharkhand BJP on Wednesday. The Rajya Sabha MP, who represents the OBC community, took over the reins of the state unit after the customary electoral process which was kicked on Jan 12. He was the lone candidate to file his nomination papers for the post.
The 63-year-old parliamentarian’s name was announced by Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram, who was the state election officer, in the presence of outgoing state president Babulal Marandi and other senior party workers at a city banquet hall. The party also appointed 21 members for its national council. The development comes ahead of the appointment of new BJP national president later this week.
After taking over the new role, Sahu said, “I am thrilled by the love and affection which the party has bestowed on me. I rose from an ordinary party worker and will continue to stand by all our grassroot and booth level workers to strengthen the party.”
He said that he will work in tandem with other senior party workers, many of whom had been the chief ministers of the state here, to take everyone along for overall benefit of the party.
“Our mission now is to make BJP govt in next assembly polls,” he said.
He added that this is a time of struggles and challenges for BJP workers in the state. “We will take on every challenge head on. BJP’s agenda is to save Jharkhand, its identity and culture. Even though we couldn't form govt due to opponents' lies and deceit, people's trust is still with BJP. The state has become a sanctuary for infiltrators. Infiltrators have open protection from the govt," he said.
Oram on the other hand said that Sahu has created a unique identity through his hard work and dedication. “Under his leadership, we are sure that the party will get new strength. And a strong BJP-NDA govt will be formed in Jharkhand," he said. Marandi too hailed Sahu’s escalation. "His sensitivity towards public problems is commendable," he said.
