Dumka: Two employees at the district land acquisition (DLA) office in Deoghar were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking Rs 10,000 bribe. The accused head clerk Niranjan Kumar and peon Nunadev Yadav were arrested while taking the bribe.
ACB said action was taken on a complaint of an individual whose land was acquired for the proposed Ring Road project. However, Kumar had held up his compensation unless he paid Rs 10,000 as bribe, an ACB official said.
An ACB official stated that the duo was taken to the regional ACB office at Dumka for intensive questioning and further legal recourse, with a detailed probe underway.
For months, ACB received complaints about rampant extortion at the office, where land acquisition beneficiaries were allegedly forced to pay a 10-15% of their compensation amount as commission in the names of senior officials to process their payments.
