19-year-old trampled to death by elephants in Latehar

Daltonganj: A herd of four elephants trampled a young man to death at Bhaisadon in Latehar on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The deceased has been identified as Aaryan Lohra (19).

Forester V S Sharma said, "The deceased was out in his mustard field to water the crop when the incident occurred. He was alone.”

Forest personnel took his body to the Balumath police station this morning after which it was sent for post mortem at the Sadar hospital Latehar.

Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav said, "We have asked our police to keep telling villagers not to venture out in the jungles at odd hours as it's always dangerous."

“The deceased family has been given Rs 40,000 as ex gratia relief while the remaining Rs 3.60 lakh will be paid after submission of the post mortem report and other documentation,” said Sharma.
