1,499 EWS students apply for RTE admissions in city schools

Ranchi: A total of 1,499 applications have been received against 1,161 seats reserved for students from weaker and disadvantaged groups in the city's private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009. The application window, which opened on Feb 16, officially concluded on March 22, the district administration announced on Monday. Following the closing date, deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri conducted a meeting with officials on Monday during which he directed that the documents verification must be completed by March 26. The date for the online lottery, a computerised random selection process, will be announced shortly once the certificate verification is finalised. Under the RTE Act, 25% of seats in the primary classes of recognised private schools are strictly reserved for children from underprivileged sections. This entire process is being facilitated at the district level through the dedicated online portal, rteranchi.in. Bhajantri said, "The district administration is committed to providing quality education to children belonging to weaker and underprivileged sections of the society with complete transparency and fairness. This process represents a significant step towards ensuring equal opportunities for every child in society, in consonance with the spirit of the RTE Act." He further said that parents can check the status of their applications directly on the rteranchi.in.
