Two companies fined for substandard quality products

RAJKOT: Zydus Wellness Ltd and Vadilal Industries Ltd were penalized Rs 11.50 lakh and Rs 5.85 lakh respectively by Rajkot’s resident additional collector (RAC) after the samples of their products were found to be of substandard quality.
The action was taken under the Food and Standards Act, 2006.
Ketan Thakkar, RAC and adjudicating officer, said the companies, their distributors, nominees and retailers have been penalized after laboratory reports of the samples taken randomly did not meet the prescribed standards.
“Zydus Wellness’ mixed fat spread and one of the ice cream flavours of Vadilal Industries failed the test. The acidic value in the mixed fat spread was higher than the prescribed limits while the fat in the ice cream was less. Therefore, both products were declared sub-standard,” Thakkar told TOI.
