Trader loses 5L to cyber crooks

Rajkot: A trader of agro commodities in Junagadh was cheated of Rs 5 lakh by cyber crooks who hacked into his portal and tempered with the payment gateway.
The victim Parth Dhameliya in his complaint with the cyber crime police station in Junagadh stated that he sold agro commodities online through his portal.
According to the complaint, Dhameliya received an order for pesticides worth Rs 4.94 lakh between May 5 and June 14 last year from Shivam Chaudhary and Vikas Chaudhary, both residents of Uttar Pradesh.
The payment for the order was made online. Dhameliya also received a message through his portal that the payment had been successful. So he sent the goods to the customers.
On June 27 when Dhameliya checked his account it showed a deficiency of Rs 4.94 lakh. “On investigation, it was found that the cyber crooks had hacked into his porta and tempered with the payment gateway in a way that the receiver got message of full payment, but in reality only a small amount would be deposited,” said a police officer. He added that in this case only Re 1 was deposited.
Police have registered an offence of cheating and under the Information Technology Act and started investigation.
