TN resident detained near Indo-Pak border in Kutch

Rajkot: A 35-year-old man from Tamil Nadu was detained by the state intelligence officials Pak border in Kutch after he was found moving around suspiciously near Kuda close to the Indo-Pak border.The man, Dinesh Lakshmanan Tevar, a resident of Chinnamanur town of Theni district, was handed over to Balasar police station for questioning on Tuesday evening. When the intelligence officials patrolling in civil dress noticed the man about 300 metres from the border and inquired with him, he asked them for the way to cross the border. The officials made him sit in their car, promising him to help cross the border. However, they took him to the police station and detained him. His identity was established from the passport and other ID proof.Talking to TOI, Sagar Bagmar, superintendent of police Kutch (east) said, “He is not clearly revealing his motive for crossing the border. We found a hand-drawn map on rough paper showing some areas of Kutch and Pakistan. He knows the Gujarati language and his parents live in the Dang district.” Police said Tevar was a utensils seller and maintained during preliminary questioning that he merely wanted to ‘tour’ the neighbouring country. Sources said some tools like pliers using which he allegedly wanted to break the fencing were found on him. There are some scattered villages near the border. The maps mentioned Dholavira, Amrapar, Lodrani, Balasar, and Pakistan’s Nagarparkar, Aligram, Islamkot, and Hyderabad. Tevar came in a train from Chennai to Mumbai and took another train to Surendranagar. From there, he reached the border in local transport. He had reached Chennai in a state transport bus, and the police recovered all the tickets.
