MOUNT ABU: Any of the surviving freedom fighter of the independence movement must be shedding blood tears after seeing the plight of the nation.
The same could be said for the anguish of those, who risked their life to get Mount Abu notified as eco-sensitive zone after a 10 years of unrelenting battle. Most unspeakably, the serene destination has become a cauldron of corruption and commotion.
The directives of the honorable Supreme Court were clear. There would be no commercial construction and conversion of land in the Eco-sensitive Zone. All other construction, be it repairs, or renovations, would be monitored by the constituted monitoring committee. Further more, once the master plan is out then new houses too would be allowed to be constructed with appropriate riders. Horrifyingly, the local press and the denizens are terribly upset. Anti-corruption police headed by additional superintendent of police Chain Singh Rajpurohit has registered FIRs against more than two dozen wrong doers. Mercifully, the municipal commissioner, Tarachand Gosai, has taken a very strong stand and has in no uncertain words spelled out his intention for the errant municipal babus, “Either bring out the missing official files in three days or face draconian action”.
The denizens are intolerably restless for suffering at the hands of the corrupt officials and apathy of the monitoring committee, which has not only failed to alleviate the problems of the distressed denizens but has failed to check corruption, for which it was specifically constituted. To add salt to the injury, the committee fails to meet regularly. Sad to state that such a sacred destination like Mount Abu, the Abode of Gods, has its share of Rajas and Kalmadis who have greater temerity to swindle crores vis-à-vis their national heroes!
