RMC collects Rs 152cr advance taxes in 40 days
Rajkot: The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has collected Rs 153 crore in advance property and water taxes for the 2026-27 financial year in just 40 days.
As of May 18, a total of 2.43 lakh taxpayers have cleared their dues since the tax collection drive began on April 7. RMC collected a total tax of Rs 448 crore in the last financial year.
Digital transactions have dominated the tax collection, with 1.86 lakh citizens opting to pay online, contributing Rs 111.21 crore to the civic coffers. Meanwhile, 57,731 taxpayers utilised traditional methods, paying Rs 42 crore via cheque and cash. To incentivise these early payments, the RMC has already distributed a substantial Rs 18.30 crore in advance tax discounts to eligible citizens.
This year’s advance collection marks a steady increase from the previous year, rising overall from Rs 148 crore to Rs 152.96 crore for the corresponding period of last year. The collection breakdown across the city’s zones highlights growth across all areas. The civic body received the highest collection of Rs 72 crore from the west zone followed by Rs 48 crore from central zone and Rs 32 crore from east zone.
Tax recovery branch has urged all property owners within the municipal limits to take advantage of the ongoing rebate schemes before the deadlines expire. Taxpayers have until May 31 to claim a 10% discount for general taxpayers and a 15% discount for women property owners. For those paying between June 1 and June 30, 2026, the discount rates will be adjusted to 5% for general taxpayers and 10% for women property owners.
