RAJKOT: Heavy rains lashed Rajkot city on Thursday afternoon leading to waterlogging in many parts including the Race Course ground where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to distribute assistance kits to over 18,000 disabled persons later in the day.

Rains that pounded the city for over an hour, left the Race Course ground waterlogged. All the roads leading to the venue were also waterlogged. An underpass near the venue was filled with over 3 feet of water and pumps were being used to remove the water.

Sources said that water pumps have also been put into service at the Race Course ground to remove the water. The hoardings, banners and equipment like tricycles, the main dome chairs were left in 2-3 inches of water. The fire department of the

Rajkot Municipal Corporation

(RMC) was also called in to pump out the water from the ground.

PM’s programme is scheduled to begin at 4.15pm at Race Course Ground. RMC officials said that since the rains have stopped the water from the venue will soon be cleared.
