Mount Abu winter festival beckons all

Winters in India reverberate with drums, conchs, trumpets, flutes, ankle bells of dancers, thrilling on various beats as crooners of salmagundi of music genres, right from tribal to folk to classical, Bollywood, to roaring contemporary pop.

In India, there is rich spectrum to choose from. Winters have great offerings like, Paus Mela of Shantiniketan, Winter Carnival in Manali, Jaisalmer Desert Festival, Kite festival of Gujarat, Camel festival of Bikaner, Kutch Ran Mahotsav, Goa Carnival, Lohari of Punjab, Pongal, Magh Bhiu in Assam, and indeed the Winter Festival of Mount Abu.

The Winter Festival of Mount Abu has come a long way, most lovingly inviting valued visitors, to be part of the same. As 2019 gets ready to sing ‘Auld lang syne’, it dedicates its Sol Invictus, the winter festival of Mount Abu to ‘Empowerment of Women’. As a proof of it, it announces to free women in Rajasthan, from the dark prison of the veil, euphemistically, the pardah. To make it meaningful the festival has charted out, a litany of events, both entertaining and competitive.

Opening the fair in the legendary Polo Ground, with puppetry and poets meet, the festival promises to take wings, charged with inaugural songs by the visually challenged crooners from NAB – PNM, Rehabilitation Centre for the Blind, Mount Abu. Following that, it would race every day with razzmatazz of events for one and all.

More so for women, like garba, rangoli, mehandi, Miss Araveli contest, various competitions like boat race, cycle race, and many other games etc — a rocking, rolling, swinging, singing, a roaring cappella of star studded night, would bid a memorable sayonara, with razzle-dazzle fireworks, welcoming 2020, with the ground reverberating – ‘Happy New Year’.
