AMRELI: A 48-year-old woman, Geeta Rathod, was allegedly murdered by her brother, at Sapar village in Bagasara taluka of Amreli district. Police said the accused, Naresh Chauhan, attacked his sister with a bladed weapon after a heated argument on Tuesday.
The victim's husband, Arvind Rathod, 50, lodged a complaint at Bagasara police station against his brother-in-law under Section 103(1) and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused.
Police sources said the murder was linked to a consanguineous affair, as Geeta's son, Hardik, had ostensibly developed a relationship with his cousin, Khushi, Naresh's daughter. When Naresh learned that the two had eloped, he rushed to Geeta's house in Sapar. An argument followed between the siblings, during which Naresh stabbed and killed Geeta.
The Bagasara police inspector, Dhari division ASP Jayveer Gadhvi and a team of forensic experts went to the crime scene for the investigation. Police said efforts are underway to find and apprehend the accused.
