PORBANDAR: Caught for drunken revelry in
Gandhiji's birth place, five members of Jafrabad municipality, including its vice-president, were let off on bail on Monday. The civic body officials and the president of Veraval municipality, who is on the run since the incident, were caught red-handed while consuming Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) around midnight on Saturday and booked under Prohibition Act subsequently on Sunday.
According to the incident details, following a tip-off about liquor to be served at the scheduled party of Jafrabad municipality members at Vila Circuit House in Porbandar, police conducted the raid.
"Five offenders were arrested on the spot, while Veraval municipality president Koshor Kuhada fled from the place. Kuhada has been declared as absconder and a manhunt has been launched against him," said Porbandar area superintendent of police Makrand Chauhan.
The arrested were identified as Jafrabad municipality vice-chairman Chana Bamania, Naran Bamania, Rama Solanki, all from BJP, Raju Ansani and Ashok Gohel of Porbandar Municipality. Police recovered several bottles of IMFL from the place and also seized a car with the name plate of Jafrabad municipality president.
The offenders had come to participate in a state-level convention of municipality members in the city, in which 85 participants from across the state had registered themselves.
