Raipur: The death toll in the boiler explosion at Vedanta power plant in Chhattisgarh's Sakti district has risen to 21 after another injured worker succumbed during treatment, even as investigations indicate serious lapses and operational negligence behind the April 14 tragedy.
The latest victim, Kismat Ali from Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh, died at a private hospital in Raipur, said burn specialist Dr Sunil Kalda. A total of 36 workers sustained burn injuries in the explosion, with several still undergoing treatment at different medical facilities.
The doctor said four critically injured workers were referred to Raipur with over 90 per cent burns. Two had died earlier during transit, while the remaining patients remain in critical condition. Kismat, who was on ventilator support, died on Friday evening.
