Ramen Deka sworn-in as 10th Guv of Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR: Ramen Deka was on Wednesday sworn in as the tenth Governor of Chhattisgarh. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Ramesh Sinha, the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court, at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan in state capital. Chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Raman Singh and other cabinet ministers were present at the function.

Ramen Deka, 70, is a former Lok Sabha member from Assam and former BJP national secretary who has succeeded Biswabhusan Harichandan. Deka is a native of Assam and a two-time elected Member of Parliament in 2009 and 2014 who has also served as BJP president for state of Assam. He is among the founder members of Bharatiya Janata Party.

"I will be acting as the mediator for state and Centre and work towards development of Chhattisgarh. I will ensure that the state proceeds towards a developed state. Assam and Chhattisgarh have had a long relationship which will now strengthen further," Deka said while speaking to reporters here.

He added that he will focus on understanding the geography and geopolitical situation of the state.

Deka upon arriving at Raipur on Tuesday stated that Chhattisgarh is progressing rapidly, and we are committed to reaching new heights of development in the state. Then, Governor Ramen Deka attended the first official function of house-warming ceremony of Ramvichar Netam, the tribal welfare and agricul ture minister, at Naya Raipur.

Deka later departed for New Delhi to participate in a three-day confer ence of Governors at Rashtrapati Bhavan to be presided by President Droupadi Murmu, from August 1.
