Raipur youth skydived 25 times from 14,000 feet to get USPA licence

RAIPUR: Pursuing his skydiving passion, a 25-year-old skydiver from Raipur jumped from 14,000 feet 25 times to get his

United States Parachute Association

(USPA) ‘A’ Licence from

Dropzone

in Russia.

Indrajit Ghose

has been trained by an ex-Indian Navy officer and skydiving instructor Rajesh Kumar,

Russian Military

,

Belarus National Team

and certified USPA instructors in an intensive course popularly known as

Accelerated Free Fall

(

AFF

) where the body quickly needs to adapt to the skydiving environment by jumping out of planes and use a wind tunnel to train.

Sharing his experience, Indrajit said, "Due to the pandemic, I had only a 20 days visa to complete the course and student skydivers like me were not allowed to jump in bad weather. Unfortunately, the weather was bad during the majority of my stay. So when the weather would be good I had to push myself to make five jumps with specific drills in a day to complete the course on time. Some students would not be able to stand after 2 jumps as free fall brings immense mental fatigue. But I wanted to complete my course."

With the closure of gyms due to the pandemic, Indrajit would work out at night after 11pm in his society premises when the streets would be completely empty. Even the busy digital marketer schedule did not come in his way to pursue his passion.

Now a USPA 'A' License skydiver, Indrajit can now jump anywhere on the planet. “I want to promote young Raipurians, athletes and adventurers to follow their dream. There will be a million hurdles, be thirsty, be patient, be humble”, he said.

"My father and mother always wanted me to be independent and motivated me to follow my passion. My friends are my backbone who would joke around with me during my gruesome AFF training when I would fall asleep on a chair in broad daylight due to extreme fatigue. Skydiving is just like a sport, like cricket, in cricket if you miss the ball you lose your wicket, in skydiving you lose your life, so nothing can be left to chance,” he said.
