RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh’s push towards a digital-first Census 2027 is gathering momentum, with over 61,000 residents already registering on the self-enumeration portal, signalling a shift in how demographic data is being captured.
According to the directorate of census operations, a total of 61,503 citizens have enrolled in the online exercise so far. Of these, 47,419 have completed and submitted their household details, while 14,084 have begun the process and are currently entering data.

The self-enumeration drive, being conducted under the registrar general and census commissioner of India, allows residents to directly provide information on housing, family composition and basic amenities through a secure, OTP-based portal. Once submitted, users receive a census reference number (CRN), which serves as an official record for future verification.
Officials said the digital approach is expected to improve accuracy and reduce the burden on field enumerators by minimising manual errors. “Direct participation of citizens enhances the authenticity of data and makes the process more efficient,” an official said.
To ensure wider accessibility, trained supervisors equipped with digital devices have been deployed to assist residents in data entry and verification.
Helplines have also been set up to address technical issues during the process.
Authorities have reiterated that the data collected will remain confidential and will be used strictly for statistical purposes under legal safeguards.
Director of census operations for Chhattisgarh, Kartikeya Goyal, urged citizens to complete the process at the earliest. He said an accurate database is crucial for planning and delivery of welfare schemes, and wider participation would ensure better representation of households in the national exercise.
