Mainpat shivers at 2° as winter tightens its grip on north CG

Raipur: North Chhattisgarh is set to experience cold but dry weather conditions over the next few days, with the local meteorological department forecasting isolated cold wave conditions in parts of the region during the next 24 hours, followed by a gradual rise in minimum temperatures. The minimum temperature in Mainpat, Surguja, had plummeted to 2°C on Monday night. According to the latest bulletin issued by the department, Ambikapur recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 4.8°C, highlighting the sharp winter chill prevailing in Surguja division. Other north Chhattisgarh stations such as Pendra Road (6.8°C) and Bilaspur (11°C) also witnessed below-normal night temperatures, while daytime temperatures remained moderate, ranging between 25°C and 28°C Meteorologists have indicated that dry weather is likely to prevail across the state, including north and central Chhattisgarh, with no rainfall activity expected in the coming days. However, cold wave conditions may occur at one or two places in north and central districts, particularly during night and early morning hours The department has also projected a gradual increase of 2–3°C in minimum temperatures over the next five days, suggesting that while the current cold spell may ease slightly, winter conditions will continue. Morning mist or shallow fog is likely in pockets, especially in low-lying areas, which could affect early-hour visibility. With agriculture and daily life sensitive to temperature fluctuations in tribal and forested belts of north Chhattisgarh, residents have been advised to take precautions against cold exposure, particularly during night and early morning hours.
