Raipur: The Chhattisgarh High Court has reopened proceedings in the 2003 murder case of NCP leader Ramavtar Jaggi, following directives from the
Supreme Court. Notices have been issued to Amit Jogi, an accused acquitted two decades ago, and the complainant Satish Jaggi, directing them to appear with their legal counsel at the next hearing on April 1.
Amit Jogi is the son of Chhattisgarh's first CM, Ajit Jogi, while Satish Jaggi is the son of the deceased Ramavtar Jaggi.
Amit Jogi took to X, saying, "I have been informed that HC will hear the matter on April 1, in which I was acquitted two decades ago. I remain calm and confident that God's grace will continue, and I have full faith that truth will prevail."
Jaggi told TOI that a total of 31 persons were accused in the murder case, of whom two turned govt witnesses.
Of the remaining 29 accused, 28 were convicted, while Amit Jogi was acquitted.
On June 4, 2003, the NCP leader was shot dead. However, on May 31, 2007, a special court in Raipur acquitted Jogi due to lack of evidence.
CBI had earlier challenged the May 2007 judgment, but the high court dismissed the petition on Sept 12, 2011, citing delay. Similarly, a petition filed by Jaggi seeking to convert a revision petition into a criminal appeal against Amit Jogi's acquittal was dismissed on Sept 19, 2011.
