Raipur: An elderly couple was murdered inside their home in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district late on Tuesday, with police suspecting robbery as the motive.
Unidentified assailants slit the throats of the couple while they were asleep and fled with jewellery worth around Rs 70,000–80,000, police said. Another gold necklace is also reported missing.
The victims were identified as Santram Sahu (62) and his wife Shyam Bai Sahu (62), residents of Khapri village and their two sons stayed separately with their families. Santram was engaged in farming and also ran a small paan shop.
The crime came to light on Wednesday morning when their elder son, Harishankar Sahu, arrived at the house for farm work. Finding the door open, he entered and discovered his father's body lying on the floor and his mother's body on a cot, both in a pool of blood.
Investigators found blood-stained footprints inside the house and on the nearby road, indicating the involvement of more than one accused.
