Cong leader’s son shot dead at home, bro hurt

Raipur: A 19-year-old law student, son of a cement and sand trader and Congress functionary, was shot dead and his younger brother injured after three masked gunmen stormed their house in Janjgir-Champa district shortly after midnight on Friday.Police said the motive remains unclear and all angles, including business rivalry and robbery, are being probed. Ayush Kashyap, a second-year BA LLB student, was shot twice in the chest and died on the spot. His brother Ashutosh (16) suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and is stable.The attack took place at their residence in Karhi village under Birra area. According to police, the assailants arrived on a motorcycle, locked family members inside rooms from outside and opened fire at the sleeping brothers before fleeing with some cash and mobile phones.Police have set up barricades, alerted neighbouring districts and deployed forensic and cyber teams. The victim's father has alleged a link to disputes in the sand business.
