Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister's Trophy International Grandmaster Chess Tournament witnessed massive participation on the first day of its commencement. In the competition between 128 players from 14 countries, on Monday, many veterans and higher-ranked players were stunned by their opponents. However, top seed Georgia's Pantsulaia Levan managed a comfortable victory.
India's Anup Deshmukh had drawn the second seed Luka Paichadze.

Raipur's Ravi Kumar held grandmaster MR Venkatesh to a draw. Similarly, victory of Rajesh Nayak over Ojash Singh, Franco Valencia Angela over Ratnakaran remained upsets of the day.
Women International Master (WIM) Angela scored the biggest upset as she defeated International Master (IM) Ratnakaran in a very sharp battle. IM Anup Deshmukh recently crowned WIM Srishti Pandey and Chhattisgarh's very own Cadet Master Ravi Kumar, all three got themselves very close to beating their grandmaster opponents. Yet, the seasoned grandmasters managed to escape with a draw. TNN
