CG’s Nikita powers to gold, gives state a flying start
Raipur: Chhattisgarh weightlifter Nikita scripted history on Saturday by winning the state's first gold medal at the Khelo India Tribal Games 2026. Competing in the women's 77 kg category, she lifted a total of 160 kg to secure the top spot at the Pt Ravishankar Shukla University campus in Raipur.Nikita recorded a lift of 70 kg in the snatch and 90 kg in the clean and jerk. Her performance placed her significantly ahead of her competitors in both segments of the event.Srimati Jani of Odisha bagged the silver medal with a total lift of 126 kg, while Joyashree Patir of Assam took the bronze with a total of 118 kg.The victory has triggered celebrations across the state. Sports enthusiasts and officials credited Nikita's success to her hard work and focus. This win provides a strong start for the Chhattisgarh contingent in the ongoing national competition."Well done, Nikita. Chhattisgarh is proud of you," CM said in his message.
