CG HC seeks report on wildlife deaths due to electrocution
Raipur: The Chhattisgarh high court has taken suo moto cognisance of recurring wildlife deaths due to electrocution across the state. A division bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal issued the order on Tuesday.The court acted on reports highlighting the deaths of several animals, including an elephant, elephant calves, a bear, a leopard, and a fox, after coming into contact with live electric wires. Incidents of injury to a cheetal were also noted.HC directed the additional chief secretary of the forest and climate change department to file a personal affidavit regarding the cases.Addressing the issue of illegal land occupation, the court also sought a response on the rising instances of forest encroachments.HC has scheduled the next hearing for 5 May 2026.
