CG govt caps commercial LPG supply at 20% usage
Raipur: Chhattisgarh govt capped LPG supply to commercial consumers up to 20% of their previous month's usage and drew up a priority list for distribution, with hospitals, educational institutions and security forces at the top, as it moved to streamline availability amid rising demand.
Food secretary Reena Baba Saheb Kangale assessed LPG stock and distribution with regional heads of oil companies and directed a tighter, priority-based supply system across the state. "Under the revised system, commercial establishments will receive restricted refills, while critical institutions such as hospitals, schools, military and paramilitary camps, prisons, and govt-run facilities will be prioritised," she said in a statement.
Railway and airport canteens, social welfare institutions, animal feed units, hotels and restaurants were also included in the priority categories, though supply was regulated based on availability.
Officials said the move was aimed at ensuring uninterrupted domestic supply while preventing disruption to essential services.
To improve access for households, the department fixed timelines for refill bookings within 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural regions to ensure more predictable supply cycles.
District administrations were asked to deploy police and home guards at LPG distributor points and warehouses to prevent overcrowding and maintain order. Distributors were also directed to keep helplines active and address consumer complaints promptly.
The state put in place a daily monitoring mechanism, with oil companies required to review commercial LPG stock and distribution every day and submit reports to the food department.
